Repair & Restoration

If you have an old and much-loved basket which you do not want to replace, we might well be able to repair it for you. From simple repairs, such as the replacement of borders and handles, to more complicated jobs (see pictures, below), we can tackle all sorts of things.

Points to Note

We always do our best to make a basket look as good as possible, and be as strong as possible, when we repair it, but it is unlikely to look quite like new again. All these things will be discussed if you get in touch, but here are some particular points to be aware of.

Colour
The colour of old willow has usually faded, particularly if it has been outside, or subject to strong sunlight. Our new willow is likely to have a much richer colour, but should blend in with time.

Weave
We we always try to match the pattern of weave used when your basket was made, but there are some cases where we can't do this exactly - perhaps when the basket's strength is an issue, or if the time it would take would make the repair uneconomical.

Strength We do our best to regain the strength of the basket, in order to return it to its orgainal usefulness. However, in many cases a basket will have been weakened by the damage it has suffered and, although we can make it look nice again, common sense should be used when handling the basket in future.
