Replacement of a 'Family Hierloom'
The original basket, having been in a loft for years, was riddled with woodworm. A new one was wanted to fit the old stand in time for the arrival of a new grandchild.

As it was May - the time when woodworm pupate and fly off to look for nice new baskets to burrow into - we were told to burn the original basket as soon as possible. Before doing so, we photographed it from many different angles and used the photographs to make the new one.

Mediaeval Arrow Basket
This chap, fed up of lugging his 16-year-old son's long-bow arrows around with his own, decided to get the boy his own basket, so that he could carry them himself.

As the pair took part in re-enactments, the basket had to be authentic. Lightweight, with open sides (later to be covered in linen) with a tie at the top to keep different types of arrows apart.

It also had to be practical; as these baskets spend much of their time standing in mud, they eventually suffer. We fitted a false bottom (pictured left), which can be removed and replaced without affecting the rest of the basket.
